Welcome to GC Digital Initiatives’ newly redesigned website!

GC Digital Initiatives is delighted to share our newly redesigned website. The new look and organization of content will improve discovery of information about all that GCDI has to offer. From a streamlined landing page which offers readers multiple paths to the information they are most eager to find, to a new calendar with filters and sharing, to a news page that will provide a one-stop portal to digital scholarship and opportunities around the GC, the website promises to make it even easier to discover new ways to become involved with GCDI.

The new site is the culmination of efforts from many members of the GCDI team. Kristen Hackett has been managing the project for the past year, bringing to fruition the work of digital fellows such as Javier Otero Peña, Patrick Sweeney, Ian Phillips, Tahir Butt, and Patrick Smyth. The project consolidates content from many different GCDI sites into one convenient location. By aggregating and sharing content from across GCDI sites, the new site will organize and surface content of highest interest to visitors, and to display images that better capture our interdisciplinary, community-driven work.

We are also grateful to external consultants Sonja Leix and Raymond Hoh, whose work on visual design, user experience, and development made the realization of our collective vision possible.

The new site has been designed to be mobile-ready, in recognition of how most visitors view the site. The top navigation bar, which features information about GCDI, our staff and faculty, our calendar and events, how to participate, online resources, and our news blog, represents a data-driven recognition of the content most visitors to the site look for first. Meanwhile, secondary menus on, for example, the landing page and about page, offer direct access to the many digital scholarship projects that are part of GCDI and the Digital GC at-large.

List of Degrees and Certificate Programs
GCDI’s community extends to a myriad of degrees and certificate programs which offer opportunities to GC students and expand our community.

Our calendar page provides access to a full list of GCDI’s happenings – from workshops and events, to meetings like office hours and python user’s group. In this new version, opportunities are categorized and color coordinated, and can be filtered in the calendar view – by selecting one of the five options from the secondary menu – or a list view by changing the “view as” function. Visitors can also subscribe, adding our events to their personal calendars, by clicking the “+Export Events” button below the calendar.

In addition to the calendar, our participate page lists ways visitors can join existing GCDI communities, and interface and get support from existing members, while, our resources page points to additional supports for enriching and extending one’s digital scholarship, including our online digital resources page which consolidates past blog posts, tutorials and handouts produced by our fellows to support learning at The Graduate Center, CUNY.
