This article looks at the failure of the Second Sight corporation, a bionic eye company whose bankruptcy stopped support for its product and left hundreds of its customers stuck with a life threatening technology. The article narrates the experiences of customers with visual disabilities who initially benefited from Second Sight’s bionic eye technology, but who now face many health complications because their devices can no longer be serviced. It raises many questions regarding the ethics of the biomedical devices industry and the role of businesses in supporting their products.
