Synopsis: Neural networks are one of the new statistical tools that data mining or machine learning has provided for prediction and classification and “”deep learning.”” (The name “”neural”” is just an analogy; these are computer programs and have nothing directly to do with biology.) This talk will discuss the use of neural networks in applied settings involving classification, numeric prediction, and clustering. These techniques are often more powerful than conventional regression and logistic methods.
