This semester, the Digital Fellows at the Graduate Center are offering free workshops for all students and faculty. These workshops will go beyond introducing you to software and websites; we’ll be suggesting new, digital solutions to ongoing research problems. Please join us for our latest workshops of the Fall 2014 term:
Intro to the Command Line
The Command Line is a powerful tool on most computer systems that allows computing beginners and power users alike to use text commands to perform various tasks. There are many functions and programs that require some knowledge of the command line in order for you to use them, but the intimidation factor of dealing with the command line is often enough to scare away potential users. This workshop is the complete beginner’s introduction to the command line on Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. It will cover the what and how of basic command line functionality to help you become familiar enough with the command line that you aren’t afraid to try using it the next time you come across a how-to guide on the web that starts with “Open a command prompt…” or “Open the terminal…“.
