Workshop: Betwyll: discover the potential of social reading

February 6, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Betwyll is a social reading app, developed by the cultural association TwLetteratura since 2014, which allows commenting on texts by publishing short messages of 140 characters. Betwyll is free to download for mobile devices. It can be employed for multiple purposes and in different contexts: it can be employed as a didactic tool to make students read literary texts but it can also be applied to more performative experiences, allowing people to express their skills and at the same time to build a community of readers.

Iuri Moscardi is a PhD student in Comparative Literature at the Graduate Center and he is also the project manager of Betwyll. During the workshop, he will briefly introduce Betwyll and its unique methodology, which combines traditional reading with the interactive potential of social network. Betwyll is indeed based on the main characteristics of Twitter: shortness (the message cannot exceed a 140 characters limit) and interaction. After the introduction, the participants will have the opportunity to test the app by reading and commenting together on the first chapter of Moby Dick by Herman Melville, which will be available on the app.

Before to attend the meeting, participants are required to download Betwyll from Google Play or Apple Stores (it is free) and to create their own personal account.
