This workshop is intended to provide you with a good foundation in beginning to incorporate games, game-like experiences, and game design praxis in your teaching and research. The aims of the workshop are threefold: 1) to help you understand how games can reinforce existing knowledge and lead to new learning outcomes for your students, 2) to explore some of the foundational concepts of educational game design and implementation, and 3) to provide a concrete overview of the game design landscape (e.g., tools and software) so you can begin to put your ideas to work. Together, we will generate and experiment with ideas of how to create meaningful game-based experiences for our students, as well as how you can utilize game-based learning in your own research practices. This workshop is meant for beginners to game design practice and theory—no technical or critical background is required.
