New @ the Digital GC

This week, the GC Digital Fellows’ blog, Tagging the Tower, features a post by Hannah Aizenman titled, “The mostly non-STEM guide to data literacy.” Do you have a dataset you are interested to work with, but first need to discern how to distinguish the various data types within that dataset? Hannah walks through the basics of the standard ways of defining different data types, which she also covered in her Digital Fellows workshop on Data Visualization last week.

We heard that Northeastern University’s  Women Writers Online (WWO) collection will be free to access this March, in celebration of Women’s History Month! “Women Writers Online is a full-text collection of early women’s writing in English, published by the Women Writers Project at Northeastern University. It includes full transcriptions of texts published between 1526 and 1850, focusing on materials that are rare or inaccessible. The range of genres and topics covered makes it a truly remarkable resource for teaching and research, providing an unparalleled view of women’s literate culture in the early modern period” (source: WWO website).  Learn more about getting started with WWO here.

And we wanted to remind you again that the GCDI Digital Project Working Groups are back! The next meeting of the Text Analysis Working Group will be held on Thursday, March 2nd, from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM in room 7414. This is a great opportunity to share skills, learn skills, and discuss topics around Text Analysis.  The next meeting of the GIS Working Group will be announced soon – keep an eye out!
