The Digital GC: February 13-17, 2017

In an ongoing effort to surface and share relevant events, publications, workshops, and opportunities that may be of interest to “The Digital GC” community, GC Digital Initiatives posts regular updates each Monday to our blog.

If you would like for us to share information about an upcoming event, workshop, or other announcement relevant to the Digital GC community, you can submit your information through the Digital GC Submission Form.

New @ the Digital GC

The GCDI Digital Project Working Groups are back! The next meeting of the Text Analysis Working Group will be held on Thursday, March 2nd, from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM in room 7414. This is a great opportunity to share skills, learn skills, and discuss topics around Text Analysis.  The next meeting of the GIS Working Group will be announced soon – keep an eye out! For more information about the Digital Project Working Groups, visit cuny.is/gcdiwg.

This week, the GC Digital Fellows’ blog, Tagging the Tower, features a post by Jojo Karlin titled, “#NYCDHWeek17 Kickoff Event.” Did you miss the inaugural event that began NYC DHWeek last week? Jojo relays it all in this post: the graduate student award winners; the lightning talks on various digital projects; the roundtable discussion on the infrastructures within which we work and perhaps seek to change; and NYCDH Award winner Steven Brier’s closing keynote speech, “Confessions of a Premature Digital Humanist.”

Also, did you hear? An exciting press release from the Met: “The Met Makes Its Images of Public-Domain Artworks Freely Available through New Open Access Policy.” Through their updated Open Access policy, over 375,000 images of public-domain artworks are now available for use for scholarly and commercial purposes, utilizing the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) designation.
